What is Digital Storytelling?

Digital storytelling can be defined as a method of digital media production in which one or more people use digital tools to develop media to share information for the purpose of self-enrichment, business (i.e. marketing, advertising, presentation), or formal and/or informal learning settings. There is a panoply of different media and digital tools that can be utilized to accomplish digital storytelling goals. These digital tools and media include, but are not, limited to, 1. Video cameras for filming videos 2. Animation software 3. Video sharing platforms (i.e. Youtube, Vimeo, Dailymotion) 4. Video compositing software and platforms (i.e.WeVideo, Adobe After Effects, Blackmagic Fusion) 5. Presentation software (i.e. Adobe Presenter, Google Slides, Microsoft PowerPoint) The most profound feature of digital storytelling is the diverse applications in which it can be utilized, therefore, it does not have to conform to any specific norms or conventions. Digital stories can be linear or nonlinear, interactive or non-interactive. Artists can utilize any combination of still imagery, moving imagery, sound, and text to visualize and elucidate their story!
